It’s been a long term for everyone, but I’m excited to end it with a really special post for you all today. This year, as part of my University of Alberta ECON 366 energy economics class, I offered students the chance to participate in a Charts Week compilation, modeled on what Jason Kirby has done at Maclean's magazine and the Globe and Mail for the Canadian economics community.
This term's compilation is available here.
I am so thrilled with these charts, and the work that my students have put in this term. As a sample, here are a couple that I particularly liked:
These are just teasers to get you to click through and see the whole list and to read my students’ write-ups. Beyonfd that, please, connect with the students if you like their charts - many have provided their LinkedIn information and some brief words about themselves - and tell them so. It’s a big ask for them to put their work out in public like this!
I’ve also pushed through an update of the regular energy charts, as usual at https://aleach.ca/charts and included stories from Marc and Yousaff on the federal budget and the Alberta RRO cap.
And finally, today, if you’re still on the RRO, the advice from Blake Shaffer is to swtich to fixed, but make sure you’re not locked in for the long term, and that you can switch to a market rate or a different plan if prices drop.
Enjoy the students’ charts!
